The metaXLR8 group is focused on innovative applications of Virtual Reality (VR) technology, and formed by by a team of professionals with many decades of cumulative VR experience. We believe that VR technology is rapidly moving towards achieving sufficient maturity for business applications and that the Web of the future, beyond the technologies known today as "Web 2.0", will be a "Web 3.0", or better "Web 3.D", based on P2P online 3D Virtual Reality.

We are focused on the conceptual design, the technical implementation and the organization of events and educational activities in the Metaverse. Our operations are in a preliminary experimental phase, but we are already setting up and running events in Second Life, the best known and most popular virtual world at this moment. In parallel, we are actively following VR technology developments and envisage expanding our activities beyond Second Life and into next generation metaverses.

We specialize in VR presentations, seminars, tutorials, courses and conferences related to science and technologies, in particular emerging technologies. Our mission is to make access to information and education, and live interaction with the most innovative thinkers, available to everyone in VR.

For our clients, we offer consulting services on establishing and maintaining a presence in the Metaverse. We also build and deliver professional turn-key virtual environments for various applications.

We are organizing the first major scientific conference in a Metaverse and wish to demonstrate that, even based today's relatively primitive implementations, it is already possible to hold professionally organized events in VR.

In the mid 90s Neal Stephenson wrote the novel Snow Crash, which defined many of the VR concepts used today. VR technology was initially overhyped and suffered from the end 90s bubble. But today, with enabling technologies in place and the diffusion of wideband access, we can see a growing number of operational implementations of VR worlds, with popular events taking place in the Metaverse, and an emergent economy consolidating in and around it. We are persuaded that Virtual reality is now entering, with other emerging technologies, an acceleration phase without bounds. Indeed, VR technology is in a phase similar to that of the Web of the early 90s, where some aficionados were already developing very interesting things with immature technologies, but the mainstream business world had not fully realized the potential of the new technology for "serious" applications. We all remember that after only one or two years the Web started to really take off and everybody was suddenly forced to take it very seriously.

Another important trend is the growing interaction, and integration, between the physical world and virtual worlds. Feeds from cameras, websites, satellite or terrestrial positioning systems, RFID chips and sensor networks can be integrated in VR worlds to provide users with enhanced sensoria (Augmented reality).
