The Salon meets once a month in the 3D digital world of Second Life to discuss advancements that are creating the future of digital worlds and culture (broadly defined to include information technology, simulation, video games, massively multiplayer online role-playing games, 3D creation tools, computer-aided design (CAD) and 3D prototyping, the geospatial Web, augmented reality, and all forms of digital environments plus the technology, social, and business dialogues that can be impacted by them).

SL Future Salon

The Salon is the Second Life version of the Future Salons held on a monthly basis in many US cities. Future Salons are run by the Acceleration Studies Foundation, which also runs a Metaverse Roadmap (MVR) technology foresight project.

At this moment (March 2006) the Salon is the best example of "real" meeting on issues related to "real life" in a Metaverse. Of course most visitors belong to the VR community, but there have been examples of popular authors doing book presentations in a Salon meeting. See for example this report on as the presentation by P.M. Barnett of his new book, Blueprint For Action: A Future Worth Creating (also described on the SL Future Salon blog). The Salon is a living example of the coming of age of the MetaVerse as a suitable venue for "real" events.

The best reference on the SL Future Salon is the SL Future Salon blog.
